At latitude 45 degrees south, New Zealand’s Central Otago is the southernmost wine region in the world. Alpine mountains to the west, rocky ranges to the south and dry tussock covered hills to the east dominate the landscape. The unique terroir of Central Otago produces wines with incredible intensity and distinction. Nanny Goat Vineyard focuses solely on Pinot Noir. Grapes are hand picked and treated to several days of cold soaking. There are five different clones to this wine, treated to an average of seven days fermentation, cap plunged three times daily. The individual parcels are then transferred to barrel for maturation under a selection of fine French oak barriques for up to nine months. Approx 13.0%
The precious Pinot Noir bearing vines of the Nanny Goat Vineyard are planted to haggard aspects along the floor of the Otago Valley. This is a region of climatic extremes, very hot summers, short autumns and bitterly cold days throughout the winter. Soils are rocky and offer poor fertility, conditions which are heaven sent for growing world class Pinot Noir fruit. The inhospitable climes deliver small berries to the vineyard, bursting with flavours, concentrated with intense varietal characters, endowed with stalky tannins and fruit laden acids
Dark red with purple hues. A nose of cherry and rhubarb, cocoa and cedar, violet, barnyard and loam. Nanny Goat's aromatic expressions set the palate up with a backdrop of cherry fruits and savoury characters, strawberry and currant over firm, bitter chocolate tannins. "Concentrated plum and intense ripe cherry flavours are augmented by raspberry and ripe tomato, menthol and soil, liquorice and heady, aromatic spice!" -Ozwinenews.com, "A vigorous and impenetrable palate within a perfectly balanced elegant wine, graced with good varietal fruit, subtle oak, savouriness and complexity, all combine to produce a wine demonstrating why Central Otago is one of the world’s salient Pinot Noir appellations!" -Winegun.com
