Yal Yal slopes gently down a hill and abuts twenty acres of indigenous bushland, largely impenetrable and full of native fauna. It is a spectacular location for viticulture, absolutely ideal for the engagingly bucolic Pinot Noir. All the vines at Yal Yal are treated with love, trimmed, pruned and kept healthy by hand. The aim is to keep yields small for optimal quality of fruit, to realize small amounts of the finest Pinot Noir. Yal Yal represents an edifying experience of countryside and grace, as it unravels layers of elegantly spiced cherry and blood plum flavours.

Yabby Lake begin with a commitment to listen to the land. To grow only the right varieties, the right clones on the perfect sites, row by row, vine by vine. Hand picked grapes and a measure of whole bunches from a single estate vineyard at Teurong are sent to traditional open top fermenters for a fortnight of vinification. Batches are pressed into 500Litres French oak puncheons for malolactic and a year of age. A perfumed, spicy style, concentrated yet silky over a length of structured tannins, bright fruit characters throughout, wonderful elegance and depth of flavour.

Tod Dexter has made a very special wine out of a small planting of superb Shiraz. In 1997 when the Yabby Lake Vineyard was acquired, it was identified that there was a thin strip of soil through the middle of the property which was unsuitable for Burgundian varietals. It was decided that the two small blocks in the section would be best planted to Shiraz, a bold move in 1997 for the Pinot Noir and Chardonnay obsessed Mornington Peninsula. Two ancient Australian clones were selected, BVRC 12 and PT23, both known to be outstanding performers.

The finished wine is treated to the extravagance of fourteen months age over gross less in a selection of seasoned and new, French barriques and larger format oak vessels.

Xabregas are true terroirists, as the focus goes beyond the concept of new world wines. Xabregas don't adhere to the stereotype of an Australian style, choosing instead to bring the unique expression of their single vineyard estate to the fore. Vines were expertly planted to follow a strong line of alluvial iron based gravels that concentrate on the hill sides of each vineyard, reminiscent of the Rhone Valley's terraced slopes.

Xabregas manage the finest vineyards in the greater Mount Barker area. They are contract grows for Houghton, Howard Park and Forest Hill, the choicest parcels of Merlot and Cabernet however are retained and earmarked for their own label. It is the belief at Xabregas that the alchemy of vinification takes a back seat to the quality of fruit coming from their three estate vineyards. The growers and winemaking team work side by side to preserve the expression of terroir, achieving a wine with excellent colour, soft, beautifully integrated tannins and maximum fruit intensity.

An assemblage of Shiraz and Rousanne from the finest vineyards south of Mt. Barker, harvested throughout the cooler temperatures of early morning at closely timed passes amongst the vines to create a Syrah of structure and complexity. Each site contributes a uniqueness and influence adding a different personality to the final wine. An elegant, medium weighted Syrah with abundant spice and graceful tannins, co fermentation with portions of the Roussanne grape adds another layer of texture and depth to this emerging Mt Barker style.

A pure single vineyard release from the distinguished Alexander block at the heart of Coonawarra. One of the most consistently performing, low yielding vineyards of the entire region, Alex 88 is regularly called upon for contributions to the icon John Riddoch Cabernet and eminent estate Black Label. The choice terra rossa soils underlying Alex 88 are mixed with deep, light clays, which yield a painfully meager harvest of Cabernet Sauvignon, translating into intense wines of the most remarkable concentration.

In commemoration of a prominent railway siding, a conspicuous landmark which played a defining role in the fledging settlement of Coonawarra's fruitgrowing precincts. Completed in 1898, The Siding was the hub for transporting several hundred hogsheads of wine a year. A splendid effort at Cabernet Sauvignon, abundant with a vibrant spectrum of distinct varietal and regional expressions, red cherries, dark berries and mint. Approachable on release, while delivering the requisite characteristics synonymous with archetypal Coonawarra Cabernet.

Distinguished Langtons Classification. A piece of Australian wine industry folklore, Michael was conceived as an exclusive bottling of two exceptional barrels, it still represents Wynn's best of vintage. Named after Wynn's young son, Michael 1955 is a legend of the Australian wine industry. It gained much richness from the prior use fortified wine cask in which it was matured. Good bottles of the original release still represent a memorable tasting experience. An expression of the finest Coonawarra vineyards, only ever made in the most outstanding vintage years.

Distinguished Langtons Classification. Michael is Wynns best of vintage Shiraz. The first Michael, labelled as Hermitage, was a special edition from the 1955 vintage, made after David Wynn noticed the outstanding quality of wine within two particular barrels, he ordered they be bottled separately. Michael vintage 1955 is an industry legend, good bottles of the original release still represent a memorable tasting experience. A regal Shiraz wine from nothing but the very finest Coonawarra vineyards, only made in years when fruit is of extraordinarily high quality.

Excellent Langtons Classification. A multiple trophy and gold winner at national and international wine shows. Acknowledged as one of Australia's and indeed one of the new world's finest Cabernet Sauvignon. A long term cellar dweller with concentration and intensity of flavour, this immensely powerful wine requires long term ageing, ten or twenty years, to fully appreciate its complexity.

Excellent Langtons Classification. John Riddoch is made in small quantities from the best fruit grown to the estate's extensive plantings of Cabernet Sauvignon. Conceived as a flagship wine for the Wynns portfolio, it carries the name of the Coonawarra's founding father into the 21st century. Arguably richer and more concentrated than any other Coonawarra, made only in years when Cabernet Sauvignon of extraordinarily high quality is available, less than one per cent of the most superior estate grown grapes are destined for inclusion into John Riddoch.

An exceptional harvest, single vineyard release from a superior block of Coonawarra vine which has been at the core of the most memorable Wynns vintages. The Harold vines ripened evenly and early in 2013, translating into a delicately featured wine in the style of Wynns early Clarets. Matured fifteen months in a selection of seasoned and new French oak barriques, its intriguing violet and lavender floral bouquet leads on to an expansive palate of dark Coonawarra fruit characters, olives and spice, the exquisite eloquence of a beautiful old vineyard.

Established by John Riddoch in 1891, Wynns now retain some marvelous old vineyards. With each harvest, Wynns select a single distinguished site to bottle as a superior vintage release. Glengyle was planted in 1969 and is traditionally one of the first Coonawarra vineyards to ripen. Matured eighteen months in a selection of French oak barriques and hogsheads, beautifully evolved after years of bottle age under the Wynn estate cellars, Glengyle's silky tannins, precision and length, support a concentrated palate of animate black currants flavours, black cherry and cassis.

Australia's most approachable and widely enjoyed marque of Cabernet Sauvignon. In 1890, John Riddoch, the squire of Penola, subdivided 800 hectares of prime winegrowing Terra rossa property. Individual blocks of the Coonawarra Fruit Colony were offered in four hectare allotments at £100 on fairly easy terms. It wasn't long before Coonawarra Claret established an international reputation. The Riddoch holdings were acquired in the 1950s by Melbourne wine merchants Samuel and David Wynnn, who redeveloped the deterioraing estate to new and greater glory.

Nestled in the heart of Coonawarra is the famous three gabled, heritage listed Wynns winery building. Originally constructed by Coonawarra pioneer and patriarch John Riddoch, the three gables silhouette is one of Australia's most recognizable labels, representing a distinctive marque of the finest quality Coonawarra wines. A limited release crafted from a selection of small, choice parcels of fruit, dominated by Cabernet with a slightly smaller component of Shiraz, The Gables is a special edition, fashioned for earlier drinking alongside a diverse range of cuisines.

Launched in 1952 as Coonawarra Estate Claret, Wynns have long maintained the reputation as producer of Coonawarra's most essential Shiraz. It's patent aromas are reminiscent of ground black pepper, mulberry and raspberry, through to blackberry at the riper end of spectrum. Oak is used to mature and increase the wine's complexity, without dominating its distinctive cool climate Coonawarra Shiraz character. A reliable, graceful medium bodied wine with a clean crisp finish, fashioned to the inspiring traditions of the original Wynns Hermitage.

Black Label defines the elegance and excellence of grand Coonawarra wine, an enduring classic that drinks brilliantly while young. Cabernet Sauvignon provides the flavour, structure and length, Shiraz imparts a spicey complexity and richness. Merlot adds softness to a finely structured and supple wine, showing ripe plum and spicy fruit flavours combined with soft, understated oak. A smooth and flavoursome red enhanced by a judicious balance of the three varietal components, fashioned to be enjoyed today, innately suited to all good faire.

The redoubtable Black Label is produced from only the top tier of estate grown fruit, only one out of every five grapes make the final cut. A wine of style and stature, a perennial favourite at auction circles, Black Label is one of Australia's most collectable wines. It offers oustanding early drinking with superb potential for cellaring.

The 53rd vintage of Black Label, with a long established reputation at setting the benchmark in regional and varietal definition. A Coonawarra Cabernet of style and stature, vinified from fruit grown to old vines averaging over thirty years of age. Always the perennial favourite around auction markets, Black Label is one of Australia's most collectable wines. A profound and engaging experience when enjoyed in its youth, Black Label consistently delivers the potential for medium to long term cellaring.

The first Coonawarra vineyards were established by John Riddoch in the 1890s, it was not until acquisition by Samuel Wynn & Co in 1951 however that they began to earn fame as a superior source of world class Cabernet Sauvignon. Wynns remain the largest landholders in Coonawarra, conspicuously claiming best Cabernet award on three occasions at the prestigious London International. Few Australian wines can lay claim to such a consistency of quality through decades of the most memorable vintages.

Shiraz is an important part of Coonawarra tradition, indeed the oldest vines ever established, circa 1890 were Shiraz. Wynns Johnsons Shiraz was planted in 1925 and can best be remembered for producing the timeless and enduring vintages of Wynns Coonawarra Hermitage. Wynns planted Shiraz to prime sites throughout the 1990s, the quality of fruit from these choice vineyards has improved from year to year, they are now fully mature and yield harvests of the finest Coonawarra Shiraz.

Inaugurally crafted in vintage 1954 and widely known as Black Label, Wynns Cabernet is produced from the top pick of estate grown fruit, it has established a reputation for displaying excellent varietal and regional Coonawarra charm. A Cabernet Sauvignon of stature, structure and style, a perennial favourite around the auction circuit, Black Label is one of Australia's most collectable wines. It consistently delivers a peerless experience as an early drinking Coonawarra Cabernet while offering splended potential for extended cellaring.

George Wyndham became father of Australian Shiraz after planting the nation's first commercial Shiraz vineyard in 1830. The enduring Bin series is the most approachable range of wines within the Wyndham portfolio, high quality efforts which reflect the generosity of style which has made the Wyndham label famous. Once crafted by the legendary Nigel Dolan, Bin 555 has been refined into an elegant Shiraz exhibiting ripe fruit flavours, as supported by fine oak and sleek tannins, the long, persistent palate culminating in a smooth and lasting finish.

A fully approachable Cabernet wine of attractive fruit flavours and soft, ripe tannins to be enjoyed today alongside your favourite faire. Rigorous assessment of vineyards is essential to identify the fruit style suitable for Bin 444. Prior to harvest, careful monitoring of the sites are undertaken by the winemakers to assess flavour development and sugar accumulation. The decision to harvest is always based on flavour intensity and varietal character. Drinking beautifully upon release, ideally alongside scotch eggs and shaved truffle over wide ribbon noodles.

Wrattonbully Vineyards is a noteworthy winemaking estate established by the Hill Smith family in 1994. Inspired by the torrid, savoury red wines of Spain, Wrattonbully makes an excellent introduction to Tempranillo. After several visits to Spain by Robert Hill Smith and Yalumba winemaker Louisa Rosa, it was decided to plant an imported clone D8V12 to the six and a half hectare Davis Block site in slightly cooler climes than it's Spanish origins. The result is a pure and articulate single vineyard wine that demands to be engaged and experienced.

Named after a set of medieval leg pillories which remain preserved as a museum piece in Oxfordshire. The team at Woodstock consider themselves lucky to be caring for some of the oldest McLaren Vale vines. Fruit for inclusion into The Stocks is sourced from thirty one rows of ancient McLaren Vale vines, planted circa 1900 on a sandy north slope at the Woodstock property, only the most exceptional barrels of aged Shiraz are selected. The palate is plush with an intensity and complexity of flavour that will continue to evolve and mellow in the glass.

William Louis Townsend was granted a Crown Lease in McLaren Vale circa 1905, he made it his home, establishing the original vineyard. It has been known as Woodstock ever since. Doug Collett A.M developed a taste for wine while flying Spitfires over the vineyards of Europe. He was inspired to study Oenology at Roseworthy Agricultural College and graduated to manage Australia's biggest wineworks at Berri Estates. Collett acquired the Woodstock property in 1973, establishing Cabernet vines adjacent to the Stocks in 1988.
