Strict adherence to the traditions of manual production are essential, the only component permitted to influence their Malts are selection of oak. Four years in seasoned Bourbon barrel are followed by five in casks which have aged vintages of the illustrious Gaja Barolo DOCG.

The flourishing Distilleries of Campbeltown were once renowned as Whisky Capital of the World until compromises of quality, in favour of quantity, curtailed demand and closed the roguish operators. Springbank are one of only two survivors, always with a view that the old ways are best, maintaining excellence through traditional techniques without a whisper of modern methodry. Springbank Distillery is much like a time capsule, a tour of the eminent Whiskyworks will reveal a legacy of trappings and traditional Malt making methodry which have remained unchanged for two centuries. The work is all manual to ensure that only small amounts of the grandest hand made Malts are possible. An obligingly delectable dram defined by its exquisitely smooth, buttery mouthfeel and rich, effusively fruity palate, characterised by its peatyness and splendid salted caramel finish, bottled at Cask Strength 54% for the adventurous Whisky aspirant.

Campbeltown was known as Whisky Capital of the World, until US Prohibition and the great recession ended the boom years for Scotch Whisky. Only two Campbeltown Distilleries have survived to this day, renowned throughout the world of bespoke Malt enthusiasts for their excellence, limited availability and inimitable briny character. Martin Wilkes Heron was born in Ireland and migrated to New Orleans in 1870. Working at McCauley's Saloon on St Peter's St in the French quarter, it falls on young Heron to rectift the rough tasting barrel whiskey coming down the Mississippi from Kentucky and Tennessee. Using a secret blend of peach and orange, vanilla, sugar and cinnamon, Heron perfects his liqueur. Heron's concoction was a hit, relegating his competition of the time to a footnote in history, and establishing himself as a legend of local night life.
