A favourable growing season leading up to the 2005 vintage, Coonawarra experienced a cool dry summer, with the grapes ripening evenly and early. Overall perfect vintage weather with no rain offered a great opportunity to make wines of classic varietal character and longevity. This wine was matured for 11 months in a combination of new (20%), one, two and three year old French oak hogsheads. The deeply berried fruits of the growing season, and stylish oak treatment made a balanced and varietal wine that's immensely true to its style, region and vintage. Alcohol 14.0% Acidity 6.2g/L pH 3.57.
Penfolds Bin 128 remains one of the purest editions within the Penfolds stable. Firstly, as a Coonawarra Shiraz, it is one of the few Penfolds reds that isn't a multi regional blend. Launched in 1962, Penfolds Bin 128 reflects the unique climate and growing conditions of the Coonawarra and the elegant style of cool-climate Shiraz. French oak highlights the pepper, spice and floral characteristics that define this style. Great attention is paid to fruit ripeness for the Bin 128, resulting in the developement of fuller Shiraz flavours, in a wine of style and structure. An awesome table red to mate with duck, game or lamb.
A vibrant and glistening, red-purple. The nose is youthful and exuberant with wafts of ground black pepper, black olive and liquorice. There are background savoury charcouterie spice notes, ginger, white pepper and truffle, closely followed by detectable cedar and oak elements. A youthful and lively red, engaging, offering mega dark fruits and menthol flavours with an excellent rich mid palate. Tingling natural fruit acids coupled with extremely favourable oak and prominent tannins gives grip, tightness and definition. The 2005 Bin 128 is a medium bodied wine of impressive length and flavour persistence. A great Shiraz to enjoy with roast standing sirloin and savoury barbequed pork.

Shiraz CabernetSauv / Padthaway Barossa McLaren Coonawarra Wrattonbully / SouthAustralia
Max Schubert recognized that blending Cabernet with Shiraz produced an alchemy that was greater than the sum of the parts. The highly perfumed Cabernet with it's firm structure and fine grainy tannins, mated majestically with the powerful and opulent, fleshy Australian Shiraz. In combination, they form a genre of their own, a wine of power, and generousity of fruit, richness, finesse and longevity. During the 1950s, an exciting time of experimentation at Penfolds afforded Max Scubert the resources to trial, and to create this Australian icon wine.

Penfolds were at the genesis of Australian viticulture and remain unique, in that they can still source fruit from some of the nation's oldest and most distinguished vineyards. Created by the legendary Max Schubert, Bin 389 is one of Australia's most cherished wines, referred to as the poor man's baby Grange, in part because components are matured with the same barrels which held the previous vintage of Grange. First made in 1960, this was the wine that helped build Penfolds solid reputation with enthusiasts of Australian first growth icon reds.

Offering compelling virtuosity in terms of pure drinkability and potential for cellaring, Bin 389 remains one of the stalwarts of the secondary wine market. The many vintages throughout it's distinguished history are eagerly sought by collectors. The continuity of magnificence in styling has remained unaffected by the development of viticulture and expansion of production. Still harmonious, ever seamless in it's expression of fruit and wood, vintage and winecraft, impeccably balanced between the Cabernet and Shiraz, it remains an approachable icon wine.

The Kalimna vineyard is one of the finest in Australia and today produces much of the base wine for Grange. Some of the vines here are as old as one hundred years and these low yielding plants produce intensely flavoured fruit that was the inspiration for Bin 28. Today the Kalimna vineyard continues to play an integral part in Bin 28, although, like most of the Penfolds red wines, this wine is today a multi regional blend. Maturation in good seasoned oak is an integral part of this wine's character. The result is a wine rich in varietal character and a robust structure.

Bin 150 is a pure Shiraz vinified from fruit grown to a relatively tiny area of the Barossa. The hamlet of Marananga lies very close to the centre of the Barossa Valley floor, slightly to the north and west, where warm dry conditions and rich red soils provide the backbone to some of the Barossa's most conspicuous efforts. The Barossa Valley was planted extensively to Grenache, Mourvedre and Shiraz by early settlers. In the 1950s Penfolds started experimenting with the blend, trials which culminated in the release of Bin 138s forebears. An answer to the growing call for the highly perfumed and fleshy Rhone style of red, Bin 138 is sourced from old, low yielding Barossa Valley sites, much of the fruit from independent growers. This is a very special Penfolds red wine indeed, one of the few that remains in component form whilst maturing in small, well seasoned oak barrels.

In 1960 Bill Redman persuaded Max Schubert to acquire a parcel of Coonawarra Terra rossa soil and the Bin 128 experience was born. It was originally labelled as Claret, and whilst the quality of Shiraz has increased immeasurably ever since, very little has changed about how Bin 128 is made, it's vinification follows the traditional Penfolds house style. One of the few Penfold wines which are sourced exclusively from a specific region, Bin 128 reflects the uniqueness of Coonawarra and the elegant, stylish expressions of cooler climate Terra rossa Shiraz.

$ 24.99 Nanny Goat Vineyard Pinot Noir 2011
PinotNoir / Central Otago / NewZealand
The precious Pinot Noir yielding vines of Nanny Goat Vineyard are planted to haggard aspects along the floor of Central Otago's Valley. This is a region of climatic extremes, very hot summers, short autumns and bitterly cold days throughout the winter. Soils are rocky and offer poor fertility, conditions which are heaven sent for growing world class Pinot Noir fruit. The inhospitable climes deliver small berries to the vineyard, bursting with flavours, concentrated with intense varietal characters, endowed with stalky tannins and fruit laden acids.

$ 19.99 Murray Street Black Label Barossa Shiraz 2010
Shiraz / Barossa / SouthAustralia
Murray Street was established in 2001 by families Seppelt and Jahnke. They shared a dream of crafting small batch artisanal wines in the tradition of Barossa Valley's early settlers. Murray Street's vineyard and wineworks are fortuitously positioned on a tapestry of beautiful rolling landscape near the ancient winemaking village of Greenock at the western end of Barossa. Working together with a small but dedicated team of friends and extended family, Seppelt and Jahnke produce small amounts of the most intensely flavoured Shiraz.
