The Kalimna vineyard is one of the finest in Australia and today produces much of the base wine for Grange. Some of the vines here are as old as one hundred years and these low yielding plants produce intensely flavoured fruit that was the inspiration for Bin 28. Today the Kalimna vineyard continues to play an integral part in Bin 28, although, like most of the Penfolds red wines, this wine is today a multi regional blend. Maturation in good seasoned oak is an integral part of this wine's character. The result is a wine rich in varietal character and a robust structure.

The Barossa Valley was planted extensively to Grenache, Mourvedre and Shiraz by early settlers. In the 1950s Penfolds started experimenting with the blend, trials which culminated in the release of Bin 138s forebears. An answer to the growing call for the highly perfumed and fleshy Rhone style of red, Bin 138 is sourced from old, low yielding Barossa Valley sites, much of the fruit from independent growers. This is a very special Penfolds red wine indeed, one of the few that remains in component form whilst maturing in small, well seasoned oak barrels.

In 1960 Bill Redman persuaded Max Schubert to acquire a parcel of Coonawarra Terra rossa soil and the Bin 128 experience was born. It was originally labelled as Claret, and whilst the quality of Shiraz has increased immeasurably ever since, very little has changed about how Bin 128 is made, it's vinification follows the traditional Penfolds house style. One of the few Penfold wines which are sourced exclusively from a specific region, Bin 128 reflects the uniqueness of Coonawarra and the elegant, stylish expressions of cooler climate Terra rossa Shiraz.

Osicka's vineyard was originally planted in the sandy soils of Heathcote's east in the fifties. Intense ecological vineyard management hasn't affected the Osicka commitment to quality, and while best known for Shiraz, this scarlet and purpley-footed cassis-like Cabernet from hot red ferrous soils is an absolute thumper. It's rich and Medocey with shimmering cedary wood. This turkish delight of a Heathcote Cabernet is irresistable to drink today, but can be counted on to lie blissfully and develop nicely in a cellar for years to come.

Integral to the style and quality of Parker has been the unique mesoclimate of the Old Block Merlot site in southern Coonawarra. There are noticeable climatic and soil differences within the fifteen kilometre strip that impart unique qualities to wine. Less prone to frost, Old Block has a higher median temperature, and the fruit can be treated to an additional hang time of up to fourteeen days. An opulent, slightly spicy Merlot in which the toasty oak merges well with the mouthfilling qualities of fruit, tannins are supple and the finish long.

Murray Street's vineyard and wineworks are fortuitously positioned on a tapestry of beautiful rolling landscape near the ancient winemaking village of Greenock at the western end of Barossa. Working together with a small but dedicated team of friends and extended family, Seppelt and Jahnke produce small amounts of the most intensely flavoured Shiraz.
