  Bottle Dozen
Escarpment are exemplary wines from special vineyards within Martinborough. The names of the unique vineyard sites and individual Cuvées are also relevant. Legend has it Kupe lead by the stars, voyaged across the ocean to discover Aotearoa. Voyager celebrates this journey of discovery, an expression of some of the the oldest vines in the district. Voyager was open top fermented in traditional wooden cuvees, hand plunged every eight hours, with a total vat time of nineteen days. After pressing it was matured in 30% new French oak barriques for twelve months. It was fined using a minimum of egg whites to protect the flavours but aid brightness in the glass, promoting soft mouth feel and texture. Alcohol 13.9%
Voyager is sourced from the McCreanor Vineyard, Princess Street, one of the oldest Pinot Noir vineyards in Martinborough (around twenty five years), an area blessed by good drainage and a cool summer microclimate. A combination of slightly heavier soils and a single clone 10/5 on its own roots, always rewards with a particularly supple Pinot Noir. Escarpment excels at formulating single vineyard wines from their small, but excellent, retinue of sites. Like the best wines of Burgundy, these individualistic editions offer marked differences in character.
Deep scarlet colour. Aromas of good clean oak, dark compotes of cherry and of fig, marjoram and violet, scorched chocolate and the vapours of warm, plummy liqueur. An old-vine Pinot Noir from the superlative little McCreanor vineyard, Voyager presents a beautifully soft and ripe, pure expression of fruit within an impeccably crafted new world Pinot Noir. Voyager will continue to develop for up to fifteen years and is a wonderful counterpart to the finest cuisine.
